Thus were born these “images of women”, which reflect not only an ideal of beauty but also what these women of their time are – Naomi and Nadja, for example, Amber, Kate, Madonna, Tina Turner, Demi Moore, Milla Jovovich… More than perfection and glamor, Lindbergh sought out the radiance and individuality of his models, and this in a way more associated with portrait photography than with the world of fashion.     It was the time top-models, a phenomenon which he himself is also behind. With around 190 black and white photos in brilliant print of the most beautiful and famous women in the world, Lindbergh (1944-2019) then offered a first retrospective of his photographic work from the 1980s and 1990s. Peter Lindbergh‘s collection of Images of Women, published by Schirmer / Mosel for the first time in 1997 and reprinted several times since, today pays tribute to the great fashion photographer who recently died.
